Vaccinations are a yearly affair and for dogs in Singapore, help prevent mainly canine parvovirus, canine distemper, and canine adenovirus. (Fun fact: Singapore is a rabies-free country!) As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure! These viruses are highly contagious, especially parvovirus and distemper. Once there is an outbreak, all shelters have to be very careful, especially since majority of the shelters are now located at The Animal Lodge! Having these vaccinations can help shelter founders and volunteers keep a peace of mind!
More commonly knowing as pet worming, regular worming for dogs help with maintaining their health and preventing digestive issues! There are a few common types of worms in Singapore - mainly tapeworm, roundworm, hook worm and whipworm. They live in the intestines and can cause vomiting and diarrhoea. Just imagine what a nightmare it would be to have 100 dogs vomiting and having watery explosive diarrhoea! Prevention is always better than cure!
Back when Changi was still a forested area, Mary and Anita started their journey of stray feeding. However, in 2005, when the authorities decreed that the land is to be cleared and dogs to be culled, both of them persuaded them against it and pleaded for time to help the strays! With the help from SPCA and a rented kennel space, this started their journey of 60 strays who were the first residents of OSCAS. Today, OSCAS is located at The Animal Lodge in Sungei Tengah but continues to be a shelter for the rescues and continue putting their love and time to doggies who await their forever homes!
Here are just 3 of the 100 cute doggos you will be helping!! If you would like to find out more about them and other residents in the shelter, follow us on our Facebook event page where we will be sharing milestone progress updates and more about the different dogs living with OSCAS, who are waiting to find their family!
